Itinerary
Day 01: Reception in Puerto Maldonado and Transfer to the Lodge
The journey begins with a reception at the Puerto Maldonado airport and an initial transfer to the main hotel office for general route briefing. Afterward, a land journey of approximately two hours takes place, combining paved road and unpaved trail through forests and settler areas to the port of the Tambopata River. From there, passengers board a motorized boat to navigate for twenty minutes to Wasai Tambopata Lodge, observing riverine species along the way. After check-in and a brief rest, a nighttime walk through the forest is conducted to identify the sounds of active nocturnal fauna and insects. (Box lunch, Dinner)
Day 02: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick and Ethnobotanical Hike
An early departure by boat navigates for one hour and a half toward the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. At this point, visitors observe the congregation of parrots and macaws that gather to consume minerals from the clay walls. Breakfast is provided on-site during the activity. By mid-morning, the group returns to the lodge to rest and use the facilities. In the afternoon, a guided walk focused on botany takes place to learn about ancient trees and medicinal plants. At nightfall, a river boat tour is conducted for caiman spotting via eye-shine reflection. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 03: Kayak Navigation and Adventure Activities
The morning is dedicated to exploring the Tambopata River by kayak. Following a technical safety briefing, navigation proceeds downstream, accompanied at all times by a motorized support boat. There is an option to stop at a river beach. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, the itinerary continues with a short walk to the adventure section for a zip-line activity crossing areas near the river. The remainder of the day is free to rest on the lodge terraces or at the bar. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 04: Return to Puerto Maldonado and Departure
After breakfast, the return journey to Puerto Maldonado begins by navigating the river and completing the overland segment via the same entry route. Depending on the scheduled departure flight, access to the city hotel facilities is provided, or free time is allowed for a self-guided walk around the main square, located a short distance away, prior to the final transfer to the airport terminal.
